Traditional Crafts and their relevance in modern society

It is said that for every thing to remain relevant, they have to change and evolve with time to suit the demands and likes of the modern society. The same is true for any craft form, be it embroidery, handblock printing techniques or weaving. Traditional designs, patterns, prints are infact the foundation or the corner stones on which modern designs, patterns and prints are developed. The technique does not change, what changes is the thought behind the technique. For example, in handblock printing, innovative use of traditional blocks through placement or using different blocks complementing each other can make a huge difference in the way a garment is designed. Similarly in Hand Embroidery, using the traditional techniques of embroidery but more so in a conceptual manner can give a new outlook to the garment being embroidered. Imagination and creativity and the way it is used makes all the difference. Creating a garment/fabric that is so unique and etched with a modern take on traditional practices makes you stand out and tall from everyone else who are trying to just trade what is made available. Try to be different from the crowd and create beautiful garments using the traditional techniques but in a more contemporary style is the only way to make the traditional crafts relevant for a modern market who are forever looking for something new and different. It is the only way to stay relevant and in vogue. What do you think? Do our crafts need to adapt to the lifestyle and preference changes? Do we need to blend the traditional with the contemporary? Do we need to be more innovative and creative with using traditional practices? I would look forward to your opinion on this. #craftsofindia #blockprint #traditionalcrafts #textiles #contemporarydesign #creativeideas #creativedesign #fabric #designersarees #embroideryart #fashionbusiness #fashiontrends #fashion
